Wild Goose Chase: Reclaim the Adventure of Pursuing God
By Mark Batterson
see relatedCage of Failures
The following are sermon notes from a message that my Pastor gave last month(January 11,2009) the message is based on a book called Wild Goose Chase: Reclaim the Adventure of Pursuing God by: Mark Batterson. I believe this needs to be heard now more than ever. so I guess you can say that these notes are from the author, the pastor and myself I filled in the gaps between the two with help from the Holy Spirit.another good book by this author is In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day
*~The 1st four cages that can keep us as believers from Chasing the Wild Goose(Holy Spirit) were (1) Responsibilities, (2)Routines, (3)Assumptions,and (4)Guilt these all have affect me and many people that I know but this next one keeps us from achieving all that we can be all that God has called us to do.. our very destiny is affected by this cage ... The cage of Failures
The Cage of Failures
If you want to make God laugh make plans!!!
"Sometimes God uses Failures or shipwrecks to get us where we need to be." Wow when this was said I was like "Jesus, I know this is the story of my life" I know that that phrase is used a lot but its true i've been through a lot of junk in my life some of it i caused because of bad choices some of it was because of others choices but most of the time it was God I asked him to come & use me to fill me to send me... be care for what you ask for!! He has to sake every thing that can be shaken take out all of the junk that is not of Him the twisted up mess that keep you form compete serving him with your everything .. you all. He won't relent until he has it all not just a part!!!
Stop complaining and start trusting!!!
Enter Paul Acts 328:1-10(Paul on the Island of Malta)
1-2Once everyone was accounted for and we realized we had all made it, we learned that we were on the island of Malta. The natives went out of their way to be friendly to us. The day was rainy and cold and we were already soaked to the bone, but they built a huge bonfire and gathered us around it.
3-6Paul pitched in and helped. He had gathered up a bundle of sticks, but when he put it on the fire, a venomous snake, roused from its torpor by the heat, struck his hand and held on. Seeing the snake hanging from Paul's hand like that, the natives jumped to the conclusion that he was a murderer getting his just deserts. Paul shook the snake off into the fire, none the worse for wear. They kept expecting him to drop dead, but when it was obvious he wasn't going to, they jumped to the conclusion that he was a god!
7-9The head man in that part of the island was Publius. He took us into his home as his guests, drying us out and putting us up in fine style for the next three days. Publius's father was sick at the time, down with a high fever and dysentery. Paul went to the old man's room, and when he laid hands on him and prayed, the man was healed. Word of the healing got around fast, and soon everyone on the island who was sick came and got healed.
Rome
10-11We spent a wonderful three months on Malta. They treated us royally, took care of all our needs and outfitted us for the rest of the journey. When an Egyptian ship that had wintered there in the harbor prepared to leave for Italy, we got on board. The ship had a carved Gemini for its figurehead: "the Heavenly Twins."
* ~Trust God's holy wind to blow you where you need to be~*
*~God is more concerned about who i'm becoming then where I'm going!~*
think about those two statements for a moment. Most people are concerned about Knowing God's will "for me" than they are about knowing Him personally. God has a way of turing what looks like a bad luck into a BIG BREAK!! Advice of Journey:
(1) Hang On! -Joy comes in the morning!!
things always seem worse in the moment, take time stop, breath, pray, think ,pray again sleep on it. new grace and new mercy come in the morning.
(2) Have sense of humor! life is about the journey.
Just like paul God uses everyday life to develop us into the person who he created us to be.
(3) Make the most of every opportunity- take time to play the game
sometimes your only given one shot to reach out to someone or your somewhere for a season.... so while your there be there and do your best .
Q&A
look back at a disappoint event and ask God why he allowed it ...
Are you trusting God with your whole Life or just parts of it?
the last cage will be the cage of fear
