Chasing the Wild Goose cont...Cage of Assumptions

The following are sermon notes from a message that my Pastor gave last month(January 11,2009) the message is based on a book called Wild Goose Chase: Reclaim the Adventure of Pursuing God by: Mark  Batterson. I believe this needs to be heard now more than ever.  so I guess you can say that these notes are from the author, the pastor and myself I filled in the gaps between the two with help from the Holy Spirit.another good book by this author is In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day

The last two  cages that were discussed were (1) Responsibility (2)Routines  you may not have a problem with those cages but just cause you don't struggle with them don't assume that your fine because the next cage is the cage of Assumptions

    The Cage of Assumptions

"the more assumptions made the smaller my cage becomes!"

One person who shows us how to deal with this cage is a man called Abraham (known as Abram at this time) "Faith challenges assumptions!"

In Genesis 15:5  "then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him, look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. thats how many descendent you will have."  can you imange  not even having a single child and God tells you that you will have a family that out numbers the stars? what do you suppose Abram was thinking when he heard this? Abraham is counted as a great man of faith in the book of hebrews.

I need to challenge assumptions ask why? Nothing is impossible with God He can do ALL THINGS! No cage can hold Him !!

Abram may have wondered why God would choose Him, why God would bless him with such a great responsibility. He did not question God he did not doubt that He could do what He promised He would do.  note:

Logic questions God .......Faith questions assumptions

Genesis 18:13-15  God said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh saying, 'Me? Have a baby? An old woman like me?' Is anything too hard for God? I'll be back about this time next year and Sarah will have a baby." Sarah lied. She said, "I didn't laugh," because she was afraid.  But he said, "Yes you did; you laughed."  Later in the book of Hebrews we are told this of Abraham's wife "By faith, barren Sarah was able to become pregnant, old woman as she was at the time, because she believed the One who made a promise would do what he said. That's how it happened that from one man's dead and shriveled loins there are now people numbering into the millions.

It is time to step out of  your cage and begin to chase the goose! are you questioning God ?or are you walking in faith believing what God's word says is true?

the next cage will be the cage of Guilt
