Get Out of That Pit: Straight Talk about God's Deliverance
By Beth Moore
see relatedWHEN YOU JUMP INTO A PIT
If you have not discovered that we as humans usually do what we want to do v.s. doing what we really should or don't like very much. then i 'm afraid that you never will. I bring this up because yesterday while i was finishing up one part of my bible study (Get out of that pit straight talk about God's deliverance by Beth Moore) I came across a question that i did not like very much. Actually if i was to be honest with you and myself i did not like the chapter very much either... oh sure it was a good chapter all thing i need to hear.. things that could change my life if i would apply the principles and God's word to my life.. but still i struggled.
The chapter was entailed : WHEN YOU JUMP INTO A PIT. and one of the very 1st statements that she makes in this chapter is this "Before you take the plunge into that pit, you can be well aware that what you are about to do is wrong, probably even foolish." this statement really hit me straight between the eyes how many time have i done something that i knew would not honor God ? how many times have I chosen to jump into something that would cause me more pain than pleasure in the end?
Beth also goes on to say this : "when all is said and done you probably do what you do because you want to. you ordinarily jump into a pit because you like the trip." I had to stop and think for a moment that is really true i od the things i do because i like the way it makes me feel or not feel i do the thing i do because i enjoy it plain and simple. "I also realized that this statement is true not just for me but for everyone : A great trip can be worth the expense. It looks good. it feels good ,or it taste good. it just doesn't last nearly long enough, which is why we come back for the second trip."
So i guess that i said all that to come back to the question the question that i struggled with, you see at the end of each chapter there are a set of questions and personal application that are there to help you better process the chapter. so this is the question that i had to think long and hard about and once you read it you will see why because it requires complete honesty on your part.
Each of us will utimately do what we want to do. Christ ask, " What do you want, Child?" How will you answer that question?
